Final Refelction

From my peer’s feedback on computers, that all children are different, children have strengths and weaknesses in this area that they choose to avoid because they need more support and guidance. I have also learnt that children enjoy working with others and at times they prefer to work by themselves, this could mean that children just want to have the opportunity or time to explore the equipment on their own. I have also learnt that children need to be exposed to this equipment to meet their needs and help them problem solve but also prepare them for when they go to primary.
From my feedback on cameras I have found a very interesting site on YouTube that showed me the exciting things you can do with a camera, and that was to put it in the hat and the children goes to hide but where he goes to hide or explore you can see on the laptop, to me this was a very fun way for children to explore and for children to describe the environment and objects around them. I also learnt that children need to learn to take care of the camera. I also support the fact that children need to be exposed and experience the journey of taking their own photos so that we as teachers can see what they can see and extend on it.
From the feedback I got from my scissors blog I learnt that not many are aware of the benefits of the scissors, I also learnt to never under estimate children being capable to use the scissors, because they are capable and competent children. I also learnt the importance of giving the children the opportunity to have access to cutting with scissors with the guidance of and adult or teacher children will learn the purposes of this resource and its job. Most importantly I also believe that we as teachers and adults should have the patience for our children to utilise this equipment through positive and clear instructions.
Overall the significance and use of technology on children’s learning and development improves through the consistency of exposure and access to children. Children learn skills in communications, they discuss with their peers and teachers about their experience with technology if they have it at home, it gives them the opportunity to share their knowledge and teach us something new. “Children gain an increasing ability to convey and receive information, instruction, and ideas effectively and confidently by listening, speaking, and using visual language” (Ministry of Education, 1996, p 97).
Children learn to explore different software and hardware that comes with the technology; they learn how it works and learn to discover its purpose. Technology also helps children to share their new discoveries with their families and friends, it helps them build communication skills when they explain and communicate about their experiences. “Children use a variety of technologies for different purposes as they explore the world” (Ministry of Education, 1996, p 98).
From all the information and blogs I have being lucky to read, I learnt that technology is more than just a piece of luxury equipment, I have had the opportunity to the benefits of technology in my everyday life as well as the children education needs. “Growing experience in solving problems together develops children understanding of how technologies can help them and others” (Ministry of Education, 1996, p 96).
